Eres tú - Mocedades
Writer/s: Encarnita Garcia De Jesus, Kany Garcia
Publisher: Songtrust Ave, Warner Chappell Music, Inc.
[Estrofa 1] (Stanza 1)
Como una promesa, eres tú, eres tú
Como una mañana de verano
Como una sonrisa, eres tú, eres tú
Así, así, eres tú
Toda mi esperanza, eres tú, eres tú
Como lluvia fresca en mis manos
Como fuerte brisa, eres tú, eres tú
Así, así, eres tú
[Estribillo] (Chorus)
[Outro]
Eres tú...
“Eres tú” (“It’s You”) was the Spanish entry to the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest. It was written and conducted by Juan Carlos Calderón and performed by the band Mocedades (Youths). Calderón conducted and Mocedades performed live at the contest on April 7, 1973. They came in second to the Luxembourg entry “Tu te reconnaîtras” by Anne-Marie David.
The song was released as a single shortly after the contest and achieved chart success across Europe, far outstripping the winner. But the extremely rare thing was that by 1974, the original Spanish language version of the song was a top 10 hit in the United States, hitting #9 in the Billboard Hot 100. Mocedades is one of only five acts from Spain to score a top 10 hit in the U.S. and the only one to do so with a song entirely in Spanish.
An English language version of the song was created called “Touch the Wind”. The English lyrics, credited to Mike Hawker (best known as co-writer of “I Only Want to Be With You”), were entirely new and not an attempt to translate the original. Despite its mild success on the U.S. charts at the time (especially in covers), it has mostly faded into obscurity.
Touch the Wind - Juan Carlos Calderón, Mike Hawker
I woke up this morning and my mind fell away
And looking back sadly from tomorrow
As I heard an echo from the past softly say
Come back, come back, won't you stay?
I wanted to reach you, let you know I still care (I still care)
And lost in the silence of my sorrow
I put a promise in the wind, on the air
To fly away to you there
Touch the wind
Catch my love as it goes sailing
Touch the wind and I'll be close to you
(Touch the wind)
I'll be easy to find
(Catch my love as it goes sailing)
On the winds of the morning I'll come sailing
(Touch the wind)
I'll be easy to find
(And I'll be close to you)
Baby, I'll be close to you
And only forever can I say I love you
And only forever have I lost you
But only a dreamer could wake up as I do
And hope it's still yesterday
(Nananana...)
(Nananana... na...)
Touch the wind
Catch my love as it goes sailing
Touch the wind and i'll be close to you
(Touch the wind)
I'll be easy to find
(Catch my love as it goes sailing)
On the winds of the morning I'll come sailing
(Touch the wind)
I'll be easy to find
(And I'll be close to you)
Baby, I'll be close to you
Touch the wind
I think the copyright for both songs are for 1973 but I could not actually find one Online.
